Jane Mason was born into a middle class, suburban background in the English Midlands, and after many years of traveling settled in Devon, where her love of nature found a rich source of inspiration to draw on in her art. Her style blends this appreciation of natural beauty with an intriguing use of symbolic and magical elements, to give her work an almost dreamlike quality seeming to fuse the inner and outer perceptual aspects of experience. She has worked on numerous commissioned projects ,both as a solo artist and with her son, Ra Mason. She is also a prolific designer of cards, remarkable for their wide range of styles and subjects, showing that this is an artist still seeking to find new expressions for her experiences and inspirations. Through 2009 there was a stream of tumultuous changes in Jane’s life, and so she found herself once again traveling in search of new inspirations for her art. After a Summer sojourn in the open spaces of Norfolk, she now lives on a hill above the Rivelin Valley and the city of Sheffield, where magic and the mundane mix like paint on the palette, waiting to see what changes the muse will bring to these new scenes. |
